Rattles
Known as "Kytsa", the voice of the spirit, rattles are used during many different kinds of Huichol ceremonies, especially the Drum & Harvest ceremony in the fall. Dried gourds with painted or incised designs, filled with dried seeds from a special plant are attached to carved Brazil-wood handles. Hearing the sound of the rattle helps to balance the spirit and helps ceremonial participants go through the "Nierika" the doorway to the realm of the Gods. |
